A Promoter's Tale

Geoff Docherty’s rock and roll lifestyle and his career in the music industry were brought vividly to life in his best selling book. A Promoter’s Tale.  Spanning the late 1960 and 70s, Geoff brought some of the biggest bands in the world to unlikely venues across his native North East.  It is against this backdrop that the movie A Promoter’s Tale is set.  It is an authentic slice of unique history from an era long gone by charting the stars that created music which has endured across the generations to this very day.
A Promoter’s Tale will follow in the footsteps of all the great rock and roll movies but with a true and highly personal story about a remarkable man.

Paul Kossoff the legendary guitarist from Free who played on their worldwide hit, “All Right Now,” was once managed by Geoff who having found him lying unconscious in his London mews successfully weaned him off his addiction to drugs.  Having helped him form a band over the following months, on returning to London, he again succumbed to their deadly effects before dying in mid air of a drug induced heart attack while flying from LA to New York aged 25.  The name of his band at the time was Back St Crawler who had previously obtained a major record contract with Atlantic Records with an advance of £250,000 in 1976, now worth well over £1,000,000 .
